The Appeals Chair is a single-chair consultancy providing independent support to Small to Medium Enterprises when an employee wishes to appeal the outcome of a grievance or disciplinary process.

With over 40 years of business experience, including more than 30 years in management across both SME and blue-chip corporate environments, I bring extensive expertise in handling disciplinary and grievance matters – and recent experience as an Independent Appeal Chair.
The role of an appeal chair is to review an employee’s appeal after a grievance or disciplinary decision has been made – including cases where dismissal is involved.
As an independent chair, I provide a fresh and unbiased perspective without having been involved in the original decision.

The ACAS Code of Practice on disciplinary and grievance procedures suggests that, for impartiality reasons, employers – especially those in the Small to Medium Enterprise arena – may wish to consider bringing in someone who can make the process as impartial as possible.
One way to achieve this is to bring in an external consultant to carry out the appeal.

MY APPROACH

The Appeals Chair provides consultative services as an independent appeal chair for SMEs, covering grievance and disciplinary appeals up to and including cases of gross misconduct dismissal.
Cases can range from straightforward single-issue appeals to more complex multi-issue matters. Hearings can be held in person, subject to location, or preferably online via Microsoft Teams.
The aim is to provide a fair, impartial and professionally structured review while reducing the pressure on your own management team.
